Welcome to Dark Star Dog Training, where we specialise in training and behavioural care for dogs.
Hi, my name is Jason, and I am a qualified and accredited canine behaviourist and dog trainer, who has been training dogs for over 10 years. I am also a Licentiate member of the Pet Dog Training Instructors organisation (PDTI.org).
Whether you are thinking of buying a dog, need some guidance on training, or have a more complex behavioural problem, we can help.
As well as my dog training qualifications I also have a Masters Degree in human psychology which helps me understand people too.
Using these skills, we offer services based on the needs of both the owner and their dog, whether you want a family pet or a working dog.

We have worked with many dogs, ranging from puppies and adolescents, to adult dogs who may have become more fixed in their ways. Some of these dogs have had very complex behavioural problems, including reactivity, aggression and guarding behaviours.
We take great pride in using up to date methods to understand a dog's psychology, helping owners build a better relationship through engagement, training and play. We tailor training to the owner and their dog, as we know that one size doesn't necessarily fit all! In doing so we seek to create a happier dog and a happier owner.
As well as my qualifications in psychology, dog behaviour and training, I am also DBS checked, qualified in dog first aid, and fully insured.
We were also delighted to be awarded a Prestige Award for Dog Training Service of the Year in Central England 2026/27.
£45 per hour. One to one training for pet dogs and gundogs: recall, lead walking, manners and field skills.
£70 per 90 minute session. Training for owners with two dogs, together or separately.
£30 per 40 minute session. Play, socialisation and first skills for puppies under 12 weeks old.

£350. Fizz, our KC registered red working cocker, health tested and from field trial champion lines.
£180. A 2 to 4 hour assessment with a written report and a training plan for reactivity, anxiety or aggression.

Meet Our Team
At Dark Star Dog Training, we are a husband and wife team who are passionate about helping both dogs and their owners.
Led by Jason, a former police hostage and crisis negotiator, a qualified advanced canine behaviourist and trainer, with a Masters Degree in human psychology, our family team brings extensive experience working with various dog breeds. Liz also worked with the police and has extensive experience in working with people.
We are committed to providing personalised training programs tailored to your dog's specific needs and behaviours, ensuring a happy and well-trained companion for life.
As owners of three cocker spaniels, pet gundogs that work during the shooting season, we understand the complexities that dog ownership can bring. Whether you have a new puppy, need help with training or have a behavioural problem, we can help.
Where appropriate our dogs, Dodger, Pip and Fizz act as demonstrators or as distractions to help us to help you get the best out of your dog.
A percentage of our profits go towards police mental health support charities.
